Incriminating Evidence

Yesterday while cleaning house I found my diaries from junior high and high school. Tucked inside I found letters from friends and this horrendous phone bill. I had a boyfriend that was out of town. (in Juvie Hall...no joke, proud moment!) This was back in 89. I remember my mother wanted to kill me but, that was a reoccurring theme in high school. I am almost positive I paid the debt. My mom will let me know next time she visits and catches up on my blog.

I have read through these in past years and chuckled but the older I get I have lost my sense of humor about some of the s@#! I've done. There was only one option...............

Goodbye to the old times. The kids do not need to know more then what I choose to tell them.

Hee hee, yes siree I agree, best to burn the evidence. I didn't reveal any of my teenage craziness to my children until they were grown and had children of their own. That was about the same time they were willing to reveal some of their own wildness.

Hmmm, you're making me feel old now. In 1989 I was 34! :)

i still have all of my diaries. I've often been asked if I'm afraid that Josh or someone els would sit down and read them if I were to die or go on a long trip. My thoughts?

If anyone is brave enough to sit through the ramblings of a thirteen year old Lacy -- then they deserve what they get! LOL!!!

Blessings!
Lacy

hahahaha I think I burnt mine when I met my husband... I didn't want him reading it! LOL Glad I did because I don't want the kids to read about my past either!!

Very funny! I found mine recently-this summer, and I read them, laughed, cried and then pitched them in the garbage!

Thanks for the comments on my blog, always love it and I ALWAYS love hearing from other moms, we need to support each other and it is nice blogging offers a community for this. I love your blog, I will be following-I live in Detroit but have a double lot and produce as much as I can, but I am always wanting to do more-I LOVE IT!

Take Care~

Really! You burned them! I've still got all mine and I hate thinking about all the stuff that's in there...painful, yucky stuff, but I still can't imagine destroying it forever...something makes me feel like SOMEDAY maybe I'll want to read it again...

Wow, a $195 phone bill in 89! I have my grandmother's diary from when she was in college. It covers the time she finished high school up until she married my grandpa. I'm glad she didn't burn it. It gives me a glimpse into life when she was a young woman. But these were simple folks living in a simple time. I'm sure your diary would have been a scintillating read!

My daughter was five calling my mom trying to get dirt on me so I could imagine what she would do if she found one of my writings...boy! I don't think I'll tell her most of high school though...that will have to remain a secret.

hahahaha, that is too funny. High School is the time for mistakes! If we don't make them we aren't living. Oh, I could write a book. I am with you though, what the kids don't know, wont hurt them.

Wow. I have mine all stored away...Im not sure I need to read them anytime soon, but I dont think I am to the point where I could destroy them! I may need them.....later...for..something.

LOL- yes, it would be best for the kiddies NOT to see that.. he he

Wow, you really burned them? It would have been great to keep them till you were an old lady and then reminisce or pass them on, I love reading diaries writing a hundred years or so, it tells a lot about that time in history.

I was just a little older in 1989 and had a really nasty (in hindsight) long-distance girlfriend and lots of high phone bills. I didn't save a single thing from her. I have also ditched most of the other junk from that time period (except for my Billy Joel tapes...long story). I know my kids will get into plenty of trouble w/o any ideas from me!

I have had a journal since I was in 2nd grade, albeit the 2nd grade ones are OK, but boy the teenager ones, and the ones from college before I could see that there was a whole world out there, that...wait for it...shocker...DID NOT REVOLVE AROUND ME!

Yeah i am going to have to hunt them down and burn them. along with the snarky, dark poetry of my all knowing, worldly self at 21.
LOL

oh well, I guess we all have to go there, and do that...but yeah I am with you...lets destroy the evidence!

I would have burned them as well.

Monkey doesn't need to know how I was in my teen years. She'll be a handful enough without being able to say "But YOU did it, Mom!" lolol

LOL Kim, isn't it humbling to look back. Yikes! I burned all mine and some love letters from HD. My girl will get in enough trouble without my "help."

I came across some of my Mom's letters, and it explains some of her life a little better. (Like why we have a half sister we didn't know about until she looked us up.) But, I think my Mom would have been mortally embarrassed to know her kids were reading letters she had forgotten about.

You are right, get rid of the evidence so that you kids can't blackmail you!

Burn it and get rid of any and all evidence. The only thing I kept from 89 was my acid washed jean jacket and Twisted Sister T'shirt.

When son #2 was in junior high and high school, he literally had girl friends all over the country (and world), and he would have monthly phone bills of several hundred dollars, which HE had to pay. Eventually, he figured out that it was cheaper to write them occasionally, and the bills came back down to where he could afford them much easier.

I'm glad I wasn't smart enough to write a journal when I was in ms or hs! I think our past is important because it is what has made us what and who we are today, BUT, I think there are things our children don't need to know!

Erica said...

Whew, thank goodness I got rid of all that a long time ago. I do still have some pictures though!

Oh that was a great read! I mean, your blog and all the responses of course! I re-read just a couple of pages in my journals not too long ago and it hurt my eyes, County Girl, I think you are onto something!

Now I feel like I really missed out. I didn't keep a diary. I wish I had now....on second thought maybe not.

Amy, you are just a youngin'!

Linda, that is funny that you remember that phone company. They sure have swapped hands a few times.

Earth Heart, that is great that you were both revealing your secrets.

Lacy, I'd love to read what you had to say at 13.

Janine, I should have burned mine long ago.

Lacey, same idea with tossing them. It was nuts to think I had to write my irrational thoughts down. Glad I found your blog!

Farm Girl, get a bottle of wine and sit down and read, lots of old memories good and bad!

Amy, if I was only simpler back in the 80's and 90's. Funny how life changes and how complex some of us get. Now that I am getting older I am learning to simplify my life, thankfully!

Patrice, good thing you got rid of them early on!

Mandie, I am just fortunate that I survived high school.

Frugal Mom, I hope your kids are not as snoopy as I was when I was a teen.

Farmchick, I conquer!

MML, they can look back on my blog if it is still alive. My diaries had nothing in them that I would want to share with others, that is for sure.

Pie, you should share some of that peotry.

Warren, Billy Joel tapes, love to hear that story!

Jodi, I bet I will have my handsful with Leah too.

Nita, now that you mention I have lots of notes from John when we were in highschool and those have to go too.

YD's the kids can learn making their own mistakes.

RO, I had the acid washed jean jacket too but it is LONG gone!

CR, that is funny. I tried to usually stay local.

Don & GG, I think you were smart to not write it down!

Erica, I have a few pics too but they are not too bad.

City Girl, I love to read your journals with a few drinks...we'd have a good old time!
