Bad and Good Eggs!

This morning I went out to tend the farm stand and there I find our "Honesty Policy" jar empty and on the ground and barely a vegetable left on the stand. I always take the money in at night but last night I did not. Details for that to follow. I usually keep $5.00 in the jar and whatever we had made that night. Not the money that makes me mad it is the principle! I put that stand up as a way to get rid of excess veggies, provide local produce to my community, teach the kids about making money, and of course to make a little pocket change. Lesson learned today by Luke and Leah. There are lots of dishonest thieves in this world! I was so steaming mad I moved it right in front of the house where it is easy to see and I will wheel it in every night. You should have seen me putting the post in. On a normal day I probably would not have had the strength to get it so deep but get me mad and watch out!
LESSON LEARNED!

Why I did not pick up my money jar. I was sick! I brought the kids and the neighboors boy to the movies to see WALL-E and believe it or not I got motion sickness. I was so close to loosing my cookies I almost had to leave the theater. I have only had that happen one other time at the movies and it was in an amphitheater. Regardless, I like the movie. If you haven't seen it it is about how poorly we humans treat the earth, it makes fun of big box stores and us as humans dependence of others. I would like to watch again when it comes out on disk because I did have to close my eyes a bit on the second half.

Below is the pickled egg recipe. John ate all the ones I made. He said best ones yet. It was a first for making them with our own farm eggs, that was the key!

Off to freeze some beans, attempt to make some bread, and if time allows make some mustard pickles. Finally caught up on responding to my comments on the last 6 or so posts, I will try and do better with that, sorry! :)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Put the peeled hardboiled eggs in the large jar.
  2. Boil the remaining ingredients together for 5 minutes.
  3. Pour over the eggs in the jar.
  4. Cover; leave on counter overnight.
  5. Keeps in refrigerator for weeks, in theory.
  6. In reality, if you love pickled eggs, these will disappear.
I added 1 cup of beet juice.

That's horrible...I'm so sorry. I'll bet your kids were disappointed. Unfortunately, sometimes it only takes one thoughtless and mean person to ruin it for everyone.

What comes around goes around...It's almost as rotten as the punks that steal the benefit change jars from the counters at fast food places.

Thanks farmgirl! I think the kids handled it better then I.
I hear you Woody. I am a firm believe in what comes around goes around!

Kim, that is just awful. Poor Luke and Leah. I always wonder if people are so hard up, why they don't just ask for some help, instead of stealing. How sad.

Your idea of moving the stand closer to the house sounds good.

I hope you have a better week!

What a shame that thieves stole from you! I wish you could have caught them in the act. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I'm going to have to try it!

Thanks Amy, Nita, and Amy
It was a bummer but it was partially my own fault for leaving the $ out overnight. Live and learn.

Ohhhh, I'm mad for you! How horrible. It's disappointing to see how some people behave.

As for Wall-E, I took my boys to that a while back and it was a huge hit. I had heard mixed reviews, but we loved it and the moral was fantastic.

Oh man! So sorry, my friend. As you know, due to my own recent thefts, I know just how you're feeling. I hope the problem clears up for you. xoxo

Rotten people! I would be really mad too if I were you!

That stinks...I don't blame you for wheeling your stuff closer. The good news is, there are still more good people than bad people. Your odds just had to catch up with you real quick.

If only that destitute soul knew what I knew about you...they would have knocked on your door instead of violating your trust. I am sorry that this happened to you.

My dad used to get his prized pumpkins/jack o'lanterns stolen every year only to have them smashed at the end of the driveway...so one year he surprised the bandits by greasing up the heaviest orange gourd he had in the garden. They tried to steal it...but didn't succeed!

Thanks for your support I'm over it. I was just steaming yesterday.
Farm Mom, I know you've had you share of crooked people on a bigger scale than a money jar too. TY:)
Warren, you are right I agree there are more good than bad!
And City Girl you are sweet. You know is someone hungry stopped at my door I would have gladly filled there basket. That is part of the fun of having a garden, giving to others.

I am so sorry! We've talked about putting a trust jar out for people to buy eggs but decided it was a bad idea. We don't trust the people around here. How about that for sad?

Thank you for the pickled egg recipe. I place ours in a big jar with pickled beets. That's worked out okay so far but I'm always eager to try new recipes!

Blessings!

Hi Country Girl,

I found you through Nita's blog. Good stuff you've got here!

Sad about the theft but great that your eggs turned out well. Did you have to age your eggs before hard boiling them or do you have a secret to peeling fresh eggs?

Cheers,
Colleen

Lacy, that is sad. Now that it is close to the house and I am sure to wheel it in at night we've done ok so far.
Colleen thanks for leaving a comment and for the compliment. The fresh eggs are tricky to peel. We soak them in cold water ad peel slowly. I usually cook extra and water ones do not peel neatly I make egg salad out of.

Oh Kim, I'm so sorry... it never ceases to amaze me at how low some people will stoop...
The pickled eggs look wonderful!

Thanks for the egg peeling info. I'll have to be more patient and try soaking, I guess!

Cheers,
Colleen
