Out to Pasture

This past week Maine Man and I put up our first section of electric fencing.

It was much easier than I expected. MM put the poles in the ground. I applied 2 insulators on each pole and we walked from pole to pole applying the electric fence wire.

I also attached a couple strips of red fleece strips in between each section to help remind both the 2 legged and 4 legged kind that theses area are best to avoid.

Cocoa aka Sir Loin QUICKLY learned his boundaries.

One lick of the fencing is all it took. Then the dogs each took a shock. Let's just say everyone NOW knows what NOT to touch. Plans are to put up another paddock in the near future so we can rotate for grazing. I see another cow in the near future.

Nice pictures, we had electric fencing but we had to unplug it though since we weren't really using it anymore though!

Hello,

Please do share an update post on how this works out. One of the skills I lack is fencing and if I could do away with that old barbwire nightmare and move to a better solution like this I'd do it in a heartbeat!

Your greenhouse pictures look great. I planted green beans and cucumbers a while ago but they didn't come up very good. I think I planted them too early. I will plant new this weekend. After planting we had a good rain and I think that the ground was too solid for the plants to emerge.

I would of been on pens and needles letting them go to pasture. The system looks very nice and clean. Almost like nothing is there. Good thing you tide the red felt there. It is very exciting to see you get cattle!!

Great job! Its not hard is it? I've done fencing three times now in the last 2 weeks...2 hot wires and 1 for my chicken yard...setting post with a post hole driver on the tractor is FUN!!!!!! You did great! Great pictures too! We have a bull named Sir Loin and he is a great gentle bull, are you keep yours? If your not eating him, I hope yours turns out as gentle as ours is, and even if you are I still hope he is gentle and easy to work with as he grows! I cant believe how big he has gotten since you first posted about him! Man they grow so fast huh?
