The other night after bath time Flower Girl proclaimed she wanted to make some applesauce.What's a Mom to say? I was busy cleaning up so I said "go for it, but your on your own".
I think she did summon her Dad to cut up a few apples but other than that she did the rest. Last year was the first time she'd ever made it. She came home with the idea from school. I really could not remember what she used for ingredients previously so I kept to myself.
She washedShe peeled
She cored
She chopped
"10 apples"
Put the apples in a crock pot and said to me:"Mom, Take Note... I used the one slash four cup of honey
& a small spoon of cinnamon"

Heartwarming to see a young cook blooming! My daughter was the same way and she is learning more and more (age 16 now). I'm sure those apples were extra special.
I love that you are a "yes Mom". A lot of Moms will not let their kids do fun stuff like that because they will make a mess or they don't want to risk wasting food. Bravo to both of you!

This is a great post, Kim! How wonderful Flower Girl has this ambition and interest in traditions like this. I stopped at a neighbor's small orchard yesterday and bought about 30 lbs of apples; we love apple sauce here, too!
Flower Girl sounds like a thoughtful and active one. It made me smile to read about the applesauce making, and how involved in it she was. For me, thinking up something to eat, making it, and then seeing it come onto the table (or other area) was the ultimate satisfaction as a child.
And I agree with Debbie - being a "yes-Mom" is a special quality. One I'm sure any child would value.
