It's the simple things.....

My uncle died suddenly 14 years ago. He loved cardinals as did my Aunt. Ever since my Aunt has always looked at the cardinal symbolically. She had a beautiful picture of one etched on his gravestone and has many throughout her house. So now when I see a cardinal I always think of and remember my Uncle Ray.
He's been trying to get in the house now for 3 + weeks. I'm thinking he just wants to check out our new digs.
This week we are putting up a real cool birdhouse my dad made...pictures to follow. Hope you enjoyed my series of "It's the simple things..." The end!

That's a great story. What's funny, we had a pair of cardinals that kept trying to get into the pool building a couple of weeks ago. After about a week they have left. What's more funny is that we had recently did some renovating to it...maybe cardinals don't like change? :0P

We used to have a cardinal that would fly up to the window and peck at the window; we assume trying to get at his/her reflection in the glass.

My parents had a male cardinal that threw himself against the window for weeks. Several years in a row. I think they're going after their reflection to drive off the intruder. It was only at certain times of the day- evidently when the light was right for it to see the reflection.
I love cardinals as well. We have had a pair nest in our hedge for several years in a row. It's always fun to see the babies fledge.

That's a great photo of the cardinal trying to get in. I never get good shots, but I suppose there were plenty of photo opportunities over the past 3 weeks. :)

We don't have cardinals in California. Grew up in Minneapolis where they were abundant. Such a beautiful bird.

When I see a cardinal, I think of my Dad who liked feeding the birds in the backayard and he especially liked to attract the cardinals with black-oil sunflower seed.

Wow! Sweet story and great pictures!

My dad flew helicopters and passed away suddenly about 12 years ago. I tell my kids that if they see a helicopter they can make a wish! It keeps him feeling nearby somehow...

Lots of things happening at your place! Nice pic of the cardinal. They are usually pretty skittish.

I love your farm!

We had a young male cardinal do the same thing, but to my side view mirror on my van. Come to find out, he was seeing his reflection and thinking it was a rival male in his territory! Silly things!
