Local Food Finds

For Mother's Day Maine Man and the kids gave me a book titled

Bringing Food Home ~The Maine Example

by Merry Stetson Hall

I meet the author of that book a few years back at a conference about local food co-ops. I overheard her speak of this book she was writing and I thought to myself...sounds like something I'd like to read. Funny thing is MM never knew anything about me meeting her or the book she was writing. So almost every night before the lights go out I read a few pages. I LOVE IT more then I ever thought I would. Someday I may even share some tid bits from the book here. It has inspired me to be a faithful supporter of our local farmers markets regularly despite the fact that we produce a good deal of foods right here. In effort to encourage others to "know there farmer" and make more of a conscious effort to buy local I will share my weekly local food finds here throughout the summer along with a random photo or two. (Boy that was a long sentence....hopefully my grammar teacher is not one of my followers...lol)

This weeks finds:

1 lb of asparagus ( I picked a 1 pound from our gardens but I needed another to make that that tasty soup I keep talking about for my farmer friend)

bay leave plant

dill seedlings ( I neglected to start any yet and it is by far one of my favorite herbs)

2 lbs of haddock

P.S I apoligize for the abnormal spacing in this post and some of the other posts. Not sure what is going on with blogger lately. Anyone else having issues?

  1. Re: Blogger - I started using Windows Live Writer for my posts sometime last year. I don't have any formatting issues anymore like I used to by posting directly from my dashboard.

Did you plant the bay leave plant?

My finds this week were 6 gallons of fiddleheads my father-in-law picked for us and 2 pre-existing patches of chives on the property. :-)

  2. Hmmm, I'll have to look into that. I am going to keep the plant in a pot in the greenhouse and bring inside come fall. I bought one last year and it grew quite big until I killed it from major neglect late this winter....oops. Great finds!

  3. I'm not using Blogger anymore, I switched over to Wordpress though.

We have a bay leaf tree in our kitchen and it has done quite well.

  4. Yes I have continual problems posting too. Spacing and photos, it makes posting a blog such a chore. I hope they get it corrected soon.

  6. I foud out by accident the other night if you switch to HTML mode in Blogger and then switch back it will show your extra spacing, which you can then delete. This was a problem that realy bugged me for quite a while.

Try it and let me know if this solution works for you too.

I just started reading your blog today and put it in my Feed Reader. I am retiring (I am in Maine also) and going to start being a lot more self-sufficient.

@Jodi WLW is the best blogwriting software out there in my opinion, but I use a Mac, so can't have :(.

    Thanks
