Making Cider

I was recently invited to a friends to make some apple cider. Don't think I'd pass up that offer, do you?

I was a great experience! Can you guess what I've added to my "I want list"?
Maine Man says he can make me one. Do any of you have a homemade press?

BEST APPLE CIDER!

The kids joined us after school.

Left to Right
Kim (me) , Diane, Kim, Kim, & Gail
GRAND TOTAL= 22 gallons
We figured it cost approximately $1.00 a gallon to make.

  1. I definitel want a press too! When the all-knowing and able MM starts to put a press together, Please let us know how he does it.

BTW, how many apples does it take to make 22 gallons of cider? (That sounds like a bad joke starter)

  2. Ha Don. He mentioned someting to me about attaching it to our wood spliter. LOL, but not a bad idea. I am not sure pound wise but there was lots. 1 1/2 troughs full. I brought the reminants home for the pigs. I had 5 -50lb grain bags full. They loved it!

  3. My parents had a cider press similar to that one but theirs is probably 70 years old or older. Except for the screw system for pressing I can't imagine that it would be that hard to make. It really isn't a complex machine. My daughter has asked if we could somehow 'steal' theirs. I think they may notice.
We used to have apple cider parties when I was a kid. All the relatives would come and we would press cider and eat homemade donuts. YUM!!

  4. If you want to make an inexpensive and extremely productive cider press check out the Whizbang plans at www.WhizbangCider.com.

The press was developed by the same guy who put together the plans you used to make your chicken plucker

    Best wishes,
