Get buried in the sand?
Go out boating?
Fly without wings?
Explore Mother Nature for hours?
Go for the ride of their lives?
Kick butt at bowling?
Go camping with their Momma?
(Dad joined us the next couple of nights)
Swim day after day?
Do lots of farm chores?
Not...a little child labor is good for them but I don't want to scare them off the farm.
Check out our high tech pea picking apparatus.
Works good for beans & berries too!

What prompted this post? This Spring when school was getting out I was asked by several people what I had planned for the kids this summer. What activities had I signed them up for?
My response was, "NOTHING". We had a great summer despite the lack of "planning". In some aspects of life I am a planner but in many I am not. I believe that kids will make their own paths if you foster their dreams and interests rather then force upon them.
Sometimes we're so concerned about giving our children what we never had growing up, we neglect to give them what we did have growing up. ~James Dobson
The Dobson quote is very touching and oh so true. Great perspective!
ReplyDeleteSounds like ya'll had a fun filled Summer! Got anything planned for Fall?
ReplyDeleteI love this post. What a great summer. I don't belive in scheduled activities either. Just let them be kids!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love the pea-picking apparatus...will have to make one of those for next year!
Time well spent this summer! The quote is so very true!
ReplyDeleteI love your high tech pea picking apparatus!
It looks like your kids had the perfect summer! We live for summers around here, no schedules, sleep in, not tied to the house, fun!!!
ReplyDeleteKids being kids. The way life should be.
ReplyDeleteYour summer looked a lot like ours. And I bet your kids never once said, I'm bored. Nope. Ours either.
Wonderful! Love the great pics. I'm a firm believer in kids doing "nothing" over the summer. During the school year it's go-go-go and do-do-do. Summers that are unplanned and simply unfold before you make a lifetime of memories. Your kids are very lucky!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, and it frustrates me when the ex thinks that having nothing to do means they can go with him and do stuff. No, NOTHING is good..veg out time, relax or explore, chill and regroup. I picked that activity, just like you pick going and going and going... I always enjoyed Friday veg night in the winter with work done for the week, a fire in the fireplace, and some comfort food...With High School sports, that has temporarily gone by the way side, but we catch it going by sometimes and enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteAw girl, I love this post. Just lovely....and that quote is amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I agree with ya. Each afternoon on the way home, the radio plays a bit of James Dobson and I really like his uplifting and common sense kinda thinking.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, childhood summers...some of the best learning experiences were outside of the classroom, in the country.
ReplyDeleteExcellent...the best stuff is the stuff you showed...congrats on a great summer!
ReplyDeleteLOVE ALL YOUR FEEDBACK. GREAT TO SEE I STILL HAVE A FEW PEOPLE STILL READING THOUGH I KNOW I HAVE BEEN A BAAAAAD BLOGGER. WILL CATCH UP SOMEDAY! ;)
