Sunday Stills Challenge -

Can you guess what this is?

This weeks photo challenge was close-ups/macros. I must admit, I s@#! at these! Although a couple weeks ago I did take a couple good ones of a white pine with icicles and barbed wire.

I use to blame it on my camera but now I know it is the user. I realized it after asking Nita at Trapper Creek what she had for a camera and realized that it was similar to what I use. She and her daughter take amazing pictures, especially macros.

Honestly, I have never messed with my camera's settings until tonight. I went back to Ed's post and sat down with my Kodak user manual and I figured out how to change the ISO setting but what is the F3:5? Regardless the above photo I used the tulip setting only. I will strive to get better at close-up photos in 09'. BTW, Ed thanks for hosting this photo challenge it has been a fun learning experience.

New Years Goals update:

After doing some more research we have decided not to go with the solar fencing. It is said to be less effective, shorts out easier in snowy conditions, and it is double the price. Electric will cost us maybe $10/mo on our bill. Our local grain dealer is letting me give him a little extra cash each time we go in and then by spring it will be paid off and ready to install.

Weight loss was also a goal for the new year. Since moving here on the farm I've gained 10lbs that I just could not shake plus the 10lbs post baby #2 that is now 6 years old so I bit the dust and joined weight watchers on-line (the momentum program) with my buddy Melissa.
A few years ago I would have said NEVER but things change and now that I am heading towards 40, it is much harder to keep the pounds off with just exercise. Week 1 I lost 3 lbs and Melissa lost 4. I can honestly say, it has not been too hard. It teaches you portion control and healthy eating habits. So for anyone looking to loose a few pounds by summer I encourage you to check this program out!

Lastly, MM is going to pick up trim boards tomorrow for the house. Today he painted a our hallway and I cleaned and organized cupboards. We are really pushing to get our indoor stuff done before Spring because we will have no time for that nor want to be in when the air is warm and the sun is shining.
Feels so good to be making progress!

  3. My guess would be ear hair? And you are more than welcome on the tips. The F-stop is for aperature settings(she smaller the setting the less light let in.This also aids in the depth of field. Keep on shooting, experience makes a better photog..Ed

  4. My guess is some kind of hair, and since I used to raise pigs, I think it looks like coarse pig hair though I'm not sure of the body part. Ed maybe right when he guessed ear....
    Very fun photo!

  8. I'm gonna hafta go with a piggie ear! Though I wonder how you got so close to take a close-up still. We never had pigs on our farm, but I remember them being skittish and active.

Congratulations on the weight loss! Weight watches has been around for a long time for a reason - for many people, it works! Hope it works for you, too, though sounds like you don't have all that much to lose.

  11. Hmmmm (LOVED the photo and GR8 job! on the still challenge!!!!! you can do Macros very well!!!!! I had the same trouble as you until i decided to play around with my camera one day! and lo and behold....LOL) I think it looks like goat or pig hair too...but I'm not sure, could be long hair on a horse...I'm guessing its not the rump end, or the ear...but the NOSE...looks like a nostril of some sort, but never seen hair grow out of a nostril like that so I'm probably wrong! LOL So stop the suspense and tell us what it is!!!!!!!!!!----the snow sledding looked too much fun! I'm wondering if we will ever get snow our way! We have a great hill to slide on if it ever comes! Now to read more posts...I can leave a comment finally....may not let me again, so sorry if I'm wordy on this one! LOL

  12. looks like an eye to me, an eye with lots of mascara.

I have friends that used Weight Watchers and they liked it. Do ya have to eat their packaged meals?

  13. Aww I was hoping since I was a day late you would of put up the answer! I was thinking pig something or other too.

I've heard the same things about the solar fencing. We were considering electric fence for one of our lease pastures and it would of had to have been solar but because the majority of info we got was bad we ended up doing barb wire.

Good luck on maintaining your New Year's goals!

  14. OK I give up what is it? I'm thinking it's not a pig part, but haven't a clue as to what it is.

Congrats to all of your accomplishments and good luck.
