Common Ground Fair

Last weekend we also had the opportunity to go to the Common Ground Fair
It was amazing, I had not been in years. I finally became a member of Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA).

I would like to grow some of these pumpkins next year, I love the way they look.

There was all walks of life at the fair. It was fun to just kick back and watch the crowd. 59,000 attended the 3 day event. Check out her dreadlocks.

The kids had the chance to play like we did when we were kids. Sliding down a hill on cardboard.

You take a couple pieces of newspaper and then one piece of colored paper (he choose camouflage) you place them on a paint can and then wrap masking tape around the can and paper 2-3 inches down. Viola...one groovy hat.

We milked a goat, a first for all of us.

Even our Maine Man..... initially he resisted (I think because he knew I'd get a snapshot) but with a bit of peer pressure he caved.

I got lots of good ideas from the crafters. Painted gourds aren't these cool? We did not grow gourds this year and we usually do, we will for sure next year.

Can you guess what this is?

  5. I know how to milk rather well actually, LOL, but then again I live on a dairy goat farm, my Mom said I milk better than she does, LOL! I even milked at our county fair once even though I can milk here at home but we don't have anyone in milk right now though, I love goat's milk, it looks like you are milking a Saanen.

  8. I love the animal pics...the llama and the cow(?) look like characters from Lady and the Tramp...the Disney movie. Their faces are just cartooney! Anyhow, the braided garlic, etc was a great pic also. Can you give any more details about the sunflower huller (I guess that's what it was?). Looked pretty interesting!

  10. Yep everyone should know how to milk a goat...even the Maine Man. And I have to agree with him on the last post. A beagle isn't a good farm dog.

  11. Looks like everyone had a grat time. Wonderful photos, especially the llama and the rabbit.
Our beagle is a great farm dog, she helps corral wayward chickens into the coop, sometimes even when you want her to!!! :)

  14. Frugal Mom, Erica, Coast Rat, Linda, Grey Wolf and Patrice it was lots of fun! Thanks.

Amy, the yak was just part of the cow display and I like the way he looked. I did not pat the angora but I bet he was soft. They were going for $200-300 a piece.

Pine Pod, I think your right on the type and I bet your good. I have yet to try goat milk but I have big plans for it...to drink, soap, soft cheese, and yogurt.

Yd, I am not sure what kind of pumpkin but I'll find out and let you know.

Warren, it was a press to make sunflower oil with.

Lacy, what is up? Did that goat butt scare you off? I thought you were a farm girl...and a nurse we see plenty of booty. ;)

Goat girl, Maine man will have no choice but to milk when I'm working.

  15. Ok that last "hi" comment was not from me. I'd say the two little rascles Luke & Leah did that!

  16. Hi Kim,

I think those pumpkins are called French pumpkin or Cinderella pumpkin. It's a type of heirloom french pumpkin. When I googled it, the pictures look just like the one you took.
